Q: What inspired you to become a dermatologist?
A: For as long as I can remember I wanted to be a doctor, but I didn’t decide to specialize in Dermatology until I was in medical school. It was a field that incorporated my favorite aspects of medical practice. I care for people of all ages, from childhood through the golden years and beyond. I perform surgical and cosmetic procedures every day, but most of my patients are relatively healthy. I have the opportunity to help people to improve the health of their skin and enhance their lives by putting their best faces forward.
Q: Why did you decide to practice dermatology in New Orleans?
A: I’m a Louisiana girl so when it was time to find our “forever home” I couldn’t think of a better place to raise my family then New Orleans. New Orleans has the perfect mixture of warm people, amazing food, and non-stop entertainment.
Q: Do you specialize in a specific area of dermatology? (e.g. Mohs, Cosmetic, etc.)
A: My passion is to treat the entire individual, so I am trained to do everything from treating acne and excising a melanoma to liposuction. After my dermatology residency I completed a Procedural Dermatology fellowship, which encompasses Mohs surgery as well a Cosmetic and Laser Surgery.
Q: What makes New Orleans Aesthetics one of the leading dermatology practice in New Orleans?
A: New Orleans Aesthetics is one of the leading dermatology practices because we have state of the art technology combined with the most inviting staff. We pride ourselves on staying up to date with the latest trends as well as being patient centered. I have an office in NYC as well as New Orleans, so I’m constantly exposed to the latest and greatest treatments and products.
Q: What is your skin care recommendation for patients in New Orleans?
A: Given the fact that New Orleans is in the south and the weather tends to be warm and sunny, my first recommendation is a sunscreen. Sunscreen is the best gift you can give your skin long term. It helps combat the signs of aging as well as prevents skin cancer. Additional recommendations are a retinoid and an antioxidant which work synergistically to help with antiaging.
Q: What is your approach to providing patient care?
A: I truly believe in treating the whole person. Every individual is unique and requires a customized approach to their treatment. In many cases stepping back and analyzing the whole person instead of focusing on a specific problem helps to capture the essence of the problem. No two people are alike: similarly, no two people have the same skin thus I have no cookie cutter regimens for any of my patients.
Q: What is one of your favorite things to do in New Orleans?
A: New Orleans is a food lover’s paradise and since I’m a foodie one of my absolute favorite things to do is to try new restaurants. My other favorite activity is going on an early morning run (or more like a walk) with my daughter in Audubon park. Going before the city wakes up gives me a moment peace and serenity that I am never able to capture at any other time. It truly is peaceful.
